I talked a native Canadian on Sun, Nov., 2nd.
Hi I’m Azumi and in Canada with my family now because we had to get out of the U.S. to extend our visas. I don’t know why we cannot extend our visas in the U.S. but, anyway, we came to Canada. We arrived at Harifax from Quebec on Sun. Nov.2nd. Harifax is located the very east side of Canada and the capital of Nova Scotia. It was very cold outside under 5 degree F. We went to the hotel from the airport by a taxi at midnight. A taxi driver’s name was Grolia who is a native Canadian. She brought us to the hotel. It took about thirty minutes to arrive there. In Quebec, many Canadians speak French and English. We visited there before visiting Harifax. They show signs in French in there. So, I asked her which language she speaks. She told me that Harifax was ruled by the British so they speak English. Singns are also showed in English here. She introduced some sight- seeing spots. They have a famous citadel that British army built as a fort the past and it is shaped like a star if we looked from the above. I asked her where delicious seafood restaurants are because it is famous that Canadian seafood is delicious especially lobster and salmon. She taught me that the best season to eat lobster already ended and it was expensive to do it now. I was disappointed it. I also asked we could go to a whale-watching. She told me that it was also late to do. She was not sure if some tours still have run it or not. I thought the best season to visit here must be Summer. According to a guidebook of Canada, Harifax was the first place where the British settled in Canada in 1749. I thought it was alike Virginia because VA was also the first place to be settled by the British in the U.S. I felt a little nervous in Quebec because they speak French there. On the other hand, I felt relaxed because they speak English in Harifax. I was surprised by myself because I felt familiar with English in here more than I speak it in the U.S.
